Grace Fu on irregularities found in PUB contracts by Auditor-General’s Office

PUB has conducted reviews on irregularities found in the Auditor-General’s Office report for Financial Year 2024-25 and, where lapses were found, taken disciplinary action against officers involved. Sustainability and the Environment Minister Grace Fu gave details in parliament on Monday (Sep 22), in reply to an MP's questions. One officer who altered documents to cover up an error will have his performance grade downgraded, while six others have been disciplined for other lapses. Police are investigating possible irregularities in quotations provided for "star rate" items under a construction contract for waterscape works. If wrongdoing is uncovered, Ms Fu said PUB will follow up with disciplinary action as well. She also outlined steps that PUB has taken to strengthen its processes. These include increasing the scope of internal audits, using digital tools and AI to improve checks, and automating processes to reduce reliance on manual monitoring and the risk of human error.
