Sun Xueling on Malaysian cross-border point-to-point services
Since July this year, 107 vehicles have been impounded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) after their drivers were caught providing illegal point-to-point services. Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling, who gave this update in reply to MPs’ questions in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 15), said her ministry and LTA recognise that there is demand from commuters for more convenient cross-border point-to-point services and have been exploring options to enhance the existing arrangements. These include discussions with Malaysia on the possible options to liberalise the cross-border taxi scheme, as well as exploring the use of location tracking to prevent illegal trips by cross-border taxis in Singapore.
