Budget 2026 debate: Sylvia Lim on empowering seniors
Instead of seeing a grey-haired individual as weak and helpless, Singapore should, as far as possible, see how the person's ability and potential can be unlocked, said MP Sylvia Lim in parliament on Thursday (Feb 26). She highlighted three areas where “recurring issues” affect seniors - the push towards digitalisation, withdrawal of face-to-face services and the government’s means-testing policies. She also asked if some government policies might inadvertently discourage family support and urged the government to continually review how it empowers seniors.
