Jasmin Lau on socioeconomic status performance gap of students

Globally, Singapore students from higher socioeconomic status backgrounds tend to perform better academically than those from lower-income backgrounds. There are no plans to study whether secondary school placement based on PSLE results amplifies this as there many factors that influence the academic performance of students. Instead, the focus is to help all students achieve their full potential, regardless of background. Minister of State for Education Jasmin Lau highlighted this approach in reply to parliamentary questions on Wednesday (Apr 8).
