Kenneth Tiong on Veterinary Practice Bill
The Veterinary Practice Bill sets up Singapore’s first Veterinary Council and the aim to raise standards is welcome, said MP Kenneth Tiong in parliament on Wednesday (Apr 8). However, he asked why - unlike the Medical Council and Dental Council - representation from the profession is not made statutory. He also asked if differential fee power will be used to ensure that regulatory costs do not disproportionately burden smaller vet practices. Mr Tiong called for the creation of a local vet degree that could guarantee higher standards, offer a less costly route into the profession and potentially even become a regional asset.
