Baey Yam Keng on weighing option of solar-powered fans at bus stops
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) does not plan to install solar-powered fans at bus stops. Based on trials, fans have a limited impact on the ambient temperature in an exposed environment. Commuter feedback was not favourable. Most bus stops are shaded by surrounding buildings and trees, reducing the effectiveness of solar installations. LTA will continue to study other options to improve commuter comfort, including the use of green roofs to help lower the ambient temperature. Minister of State for Transport Baey Yam Keng gave this update in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Thursday (May 7).
