Why is Taiwan President William Lai facing impeachment?
The impeachment case against Taiwanese President William Lai moves into a new phase today, as public hearings begin in parliament. It's only the second time in the island's democratic history that a sitting president has faced an impeachment. In November, the opposition passed a legal amendment to make it easier to allocate tax revenues between local and central governments. But in an unprecedented move, the government refused to enact the changes. The opposition then accused Mr Lai of "undemocratic" practices and moved to impeach him. Victoria Jen reports from Taipei.
