Xie Yao Quan on Israel-Hamas conflict
Singaporeans want peace and stability and the cessation of human suffering in the tragic conflict not only between Israel and Hamas but in the larger and longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict, said MP Xie Yao Quan. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 6), he said it requires “strategic wisdom” by both sides to see that attacks and counter attacks, retaliation and retribution will only harden hearts and the path to a durable, just and comprehensive negotiated two-state solution. Mr Xie said restraint is the more difficult and much less instinctive, but much more possible, path to peace. He called for “strategic wisdom” to see that urgent action, political leadership and organisation are needed for peace to have any chance. Mr Xie also said it is in Singapore’s interests to ensure that the United Nations' resolutions are respected and complied with as they uphold, preserve and strengthen the multilateral rules-based system that is so critical to the country.
