Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on Online Criminal Harms Bill
The Bill will provide a comprehensive legal framework that will put Singapore in good stead to combat online criminal harms, said MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Jul 5), he stressed the need to make Singaporeans “circumspect” when faced with possible scams and to continue with the proactive approach to prevent online criminal harms. He also sought clarifications on the Bill. One relates to the powers to order Internet intermediaries to remove or block online content. He wanted to know how these powers will not be used to restrict free speech and what criteria will be used to determine what is deemed online criminal harm. He also wanted to know what safeguards will be put in place to protect the privacy of users.
