31st SEA Games: Singapore loses 0-3 to Thailand in table tennis women's team final, ending 9 consecutive golds streak

SINGAPORE — Singapore finished with a silver after losing 0-3 to Thailand in the table tennis women's team final at the 31st SEA Games on Sunday (May 15), the defeat ending a nine consecutive golds streak since 1999.

The final at Hai Duong Gymnasium was a repeat of the previous final in 2017 — the last time the team event was held.

Zhou Jingyi lost 0-3 (7-11, 9-11, 7-11) to Suthasini Sawettabuy, while Zeng Jian was beaten 2-3 (4-11, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 10-12) by Orawan Paranang.

Wong Xinru concluded the final with a 1-3 defeat (6-11, 9-11, 11-8, 4-11) against Jinnipa Awettabut.

On Saturday, the men's team lost to Thailand 1-3, bagging bronze in their event.

Koen Pang lost 1-3 (8-11, 11-5, 10-12, 8-11) to Padasak T, while Clarence Chew beat Phakpoom Sanguansin 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 11-7). 

Ethan Poh was downed 0-3 (10-12, 8-11, 5-11) by Sarayut Tancharoen, with Chew finishing 2-3 (9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 5-11) against Padasak T. CNA
