Large tree falls across Scotts Road, obstructing traffic for at least 3 hours

The National Parks Board was notified about the fallen tree at about 3pm on Nov 20, 2019, and it was cleared by around 6pm, TODAY understands.

SINGAPORE — A large rain tree with a girth of between 2.5m and 3.5m fell across Scotts Road on Wednesday (Nov 20), obstructing traffic for at least three hours.

A video posted on Facebook page Singapore Road Accident shows the tree lying across all four lanes of the road with a car under it, and members of the public clearing fallen branches around the car.

The National Parks Board was notified about the fallen tree at about 3pm and it was cleared by around 6pm, TODAY understands.

The Land Transport Authority posted a traffic update on the One Motoring website at 3pm, saying that there was an obstacle on Scotts Road (towards Claymore Hill) after Stevens Road.

Another video, posted on community-run traffic website Roads.sg, showed Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel at the scene clearing up the branches around the car.

TODAY understands that by the time SCDF arrived at the scene, the male driver of the car had managed to get out of the vehicle and assistance from SCDF was not needed.
