Man, 43, arrested for importing fake bags

SINGAPORE – A 43-year-old Singaporean man has been arrested for smuggling more than 300 counterfeit bags, which he had intended to sell.
A total of 318 counterfeits bags of brands such as LongChamp and Anello, with an estimated street value of S$11,680, were seized in two police operations.
Two weeks ago on Sept 18, the man was caught attempting to smuggle a total of 200 bags and luggage. The items were detained and brand owners subsequently confirmed that they were fake.
About a week later, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided the suspect’s HDB flat in Punggol and found 118 more counterfeit bags.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Anyone found guilty of importing, possessing or distributing goods with falsely applied trademark for the purpose of trade may be sentenced up to a maximum fine of S$100,000, or an imprisonment term of up to five years, or both.
