SINGAPORE — A 45-year-old man, who is believed to be the individual in a video punching an unresponsive man at a void deck in Sengkang, was charged in court on Thursday (Sept 24).

Lee Sai Hua faces one charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

According to his charge sheet, the alleged incident happened at about 3.30pm on Tuesday at the void deck of 182A Rivervale Crescent.

Lee is said to have kicked, punched, stomped and slapped the other man on his head, causing him to suffer a fracture of his facial bone.

In the video of the fight that was circulated online, a man, believed to be Lee, is seen walking away to put on his slippers before coming back to hit and stomp on the victim who is lying on the ground.

The man, who was in a dark-coloured T-shirt, also slapped the victim as bystanders looked on from a distance.

In a press release on Wednesday, the police said Lee fled the scene before their officers arrived but his identity was established through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras.

He was arrested within four hours.

The victim injured in the fight was conscious when he was taken to Sengkang General Hospital and is in a stable condition, said the police.

They added that they have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence.

"(We) will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law,” they said.

Lee’s case will be heard again on Oct 8.

If convicted of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, he may be jailed for up to 10 years, fined or caned.
