SINGAPORE — Two men aged 24 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the sale of some 1,700 pairs of footwear with purported trademark infringements.

The shoes are estimated to have a street value of more than S$370,000, the police said in a statement on Tuesday (April 18).

The suspects were nabbed on April 15 during enforcement operations conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department on Bishan Street 23 and Yishun Ring Road.

The counterfeit goods were seized during the operations.

The police said that they take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringement and reminded the public that the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences.

If found guilty of possessing goods with falsely applied trademarks for the purpose of trade, the men may be fined up to S$100,000 or be jailed up to five years, or both.

“The police will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers.”

Investigations are ongoing.
