SINGAPORE — Mr Harminder Pal Singh, an opposition party member who took ill halfway through a walkabout at Pasir Ris on Monday (June 22) evening and was taken to Changi General Hospital, has been discharged.
Mr Singh, the chief media officer of opposition coalition Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA), was in the midst of a walkabout at Pasir Ris Drive 6 when he suddenly fell ill, stumbled and could not stand. He also complained of a “heavy chest”.
He was later taken to hospital in an ambulance.
In a statement released on Tuesday, SDA chairman Desmond Lim said that Mr Singh had been discharged earlier that morning, after having received immediate attention from the accident and emergency department and undergone various tests and “many hours of observation”.
He added that Mr Singh asked to be discharged so as not to burden the hospital.
“With the Covid-19 situation, the medical staff are very stressed out and beds at the hospitals are maxed out and Mr Singh did not want to add additional load to the medical staff and facilities and wanted to free up a bed for people who are more in need of it than him,” he said.
“Hence, he chose to be discharged and can manage with medication and rest athome.”
Mr Lim added that he had met Mr Singh on Tuesday morning and was confident Mr Singh will have a speedy recovery and be back in action in time for the coming General Election.
