SINGAPORE — Singapore Airlines (SIA) has banned some older models of Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops from its flights due to batteries that pose fire risks.

The affected laptops were sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

"Customers are to refrain from bringing the affected models either as hand-carry or in checked baggage until the battery has been verified as safe or replaced by the manufacturer," the airline in a statement on Sunday (Aug 25).

SIA's announcement comes after the US Federal Aviation Administration banned the affected laptop models on flights earlier this month.

Apple announced a voluntary recall of the affected laptops in June after determining that their batteries may overheat and pose fire safety risks.

MacBook Pro users can check if their laptops have been affected by the recall by entering their computer's serial number on Apple's website. The company has also advised affected users to stop using their laptops and to have their batteries replaced.
