SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old man who was unhappy with the outcome of his mole-removal procedure punched a beautician 13 times on the back of her head, neck and hand, causing her to suffer a deformity on two of her fingers.

For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Xia Tao was sentenced to six months in jail, with effect from April 10, the date of his remand.

The court heard that the victim, Ms Kang Yi Duo, 39, was given 47 days of hospitalisation leave and suffered a loss of almost S$18,000 for her medical fees even after claiming her insurance.

Court documents stated that sometime in November last year, Ms Kang removed Xia's mole at M&D Brow Beauty located in Toa Payoh, and informed him that it would take about three to six months for a full recovery. The procedure cost S$100.

But barely two months later on Jan 9 this year, the Chinese national went to the shop to confront Ms Kang, claiming that the wound was not healing as he pointed out a faint dark area over where his mole was removed.

The Singaporean explained that everyone has different metabolism rates, and consequently, different recovery rates. Not only did Xia reject the explanation, he retorted: "If this is China, I would have beaten you."

Ms Kang replied: "This is Singapore. We talk about law."

Xia then lunged towards Ms Kang, grabbed her head with his hand, and punched the back of her head and neck continuously.

As Ms Kang tried to protect her head by covering it, some of the punches landed on her hand, causing her to suffer a fracture on her left ring finger as a result.

The incident was captured on her shop's surveillance camera.

Xia could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned for his offence.
