Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik on Singapore Sports Council (Amendment) Bill
Expanding the SportSG board from a maximum of 15 to 25 members is “a recipe for inefficiency” and growing its mandate and responsibilities without demonstrated past success is “putting the cart before the horse”. MP Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik made these points in parliament on Tuesday (Jan 13). He said Singapore’s overall performance at the 2025 SEA Games shows continued challenges in developing consistent sporting excellence across disciplines. Mr Muhaimin proposed keeping the SportSG board size unchanged, with provisions to set up expert sub-committees if needed. He also asked about the significance of giving SportSG new powers to establish institutions to develop sportspersons and how its capabilities will be beefed up for this.
