Abdul Samad Abdul Wahab on Retirement and Re-employment (Amendment) Bill and Central Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill
The Retirement and Re-employment (Amendment) Bill does not enforce workers to work longer but instead makes employers exercise their responsibilities to allow older workers to work longer if they want to, said NMP Abdul Samad Abdul Wahab. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 1), he suggested enhancing existing support measures, such as the Senior Worker Support Package and the Early Adopter Grant, to encourage more employers to proactively hire senior workers before the 2030 timeline. He also urged the Government to consider allowing the withdrawal of Central Provident Fund monies at the time a worker decides to retire.
