Amy Khor on Taxi Driver's Vocational Licence
Taxi drivers need to have basic proficiency in English to be able to serve their passengers well as there are locals and foreign visitors who may not understand the local vernacular languages or dialects. Taxi drivers who have had their Taxi Driver's Vocational Licence (TDVL) revoked have to meet prevailing requirements when they apply for a new licence, including language proficiency. Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor said this in a reply to an MP’s questions on Thursday (Feb 29). She added that most drivers who had previously held a TDVL would have already fulfilled the requirement and need only show documentary proof of it. If they are unable to produce the documents, they can make an appeal to the Land Transport Authority, which will assess the appeals on a case-by-case basis.
