Baey Yam Keng on strengthening processes in ‘recycling right’

03:39 Min

Singapore must strike a balance between ensuring appropriate levels of regulation and governance and not imposing overly onerous requirements, which would inadvertently discourage voluntary recycling initiatives, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment Baey Yam Keng. Replying to MPs’ questions in Parliament on Monday (Mar 20), he said the Government will continue to monitor the recycling landscape and strengthen its processes as and when necessary. He highlighted the regulations for the recycling landscape, which cover national programmes led by the National Environment Agency and non-governmental programmes by corporations and community organisations. Mr Baey said all segments of society have a part to play in “recycling right” to become a zero-waste nation.
