Singapore is known for its tough stance on drugs. Less often seen is the rehabilitation system that supports drug abusers convicted of consumption offences as they work towards recovery.
Breaking the Habit offers rare access to Singapore's Drug Rehabilitation Centres (DRCs), following four drug abusers as they navigate a structured regime of treatment, counselling and rehabilitation. Some are serving their first stint in the system, while others are confronting addiction after multiple relapses.
Across two episodes, the series examines the realities of addiction, the impact on families and loved ones, and the challenges of rebuilding trust and stability. It follows the inmates as they prepare for release and transition back into society, where old temptations, fractured relationships and everyday pressures can threaten their progress.
Through intimate personal stories, the series explores rehabilitation, reintegration and the difficult work of breaking the cycle of drug abuse.
