Budget 2023 debate: Joan Pereira on the importance of crisis preparation
Singapore is finally riding out the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic but it must prepare for potential future crises or threats, said MP Joan Pereira in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 22). She urged the Government to enhance funding support and resource allocation for crisis preparation among its agencies and on the ground, but emphasised that it “cannot do this alone”. Ms Pereira called for everyone to play their part to look after each other and be familiar with what to do in an emergency. She also hopes that at least half of all Singaporeans will step forward to be trained in first aid, CPR, basic firefighting and other critical life-saving skills.
