Budget 2025 debate: Neil Parekh Nimil Rajnikant on leveraging surplus to address emerging challenges
As Singapore celebrates 60 years of independence, Budget 2025 holds special significance as a testament to its resilience, unity and unwavering commitment to progress, said NMP Neil Parekh Nimil Rajnikant. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 26), he said the Budget is “not just a financial plan” but an opportunity to reflect on Singapore’s achievements, acknowledge the challenges ahead and reaffirm its collective vision for a prosperous and inclusive nation. He pointed out that Singapore’s continued fiscal prudence has allowed it to maintain a surplus. He suggested using it to address emerging challenges with even greater allocations to help businesses adapt quickly to a digital economy and the changes brought about by artificial intelligence, as well as help citizens over 60 years old to retire with dignity and maintain their quality of life.
