Budget 2025 debate: Xie Yao Quan on ‘quintessentially Singaporean and PAP government Budget’
Rather than seeing Budget 2025 as an election Budget, look at it as yet another “quintessentially Singaporean Budget” and “quintessentially PAP government Budget”, said MP Xie Yao Quan. If the prime motivation behind this Budget is the election, the government “must be mad” not to have spent more of the surpluses available now, he said in parliament on Thursday (Feb 27). Mr Xie said Singaporeans can draw confidence that the surpluses represent the PAP government’s consistency and will to maintain fiscal prudence across many terms of government - past, current and into future terms if it continues to receive the mandate.
