Budget 2026 debate: Henry Kwek on how Singapore can emerge stronger in an AI-charged world
The government should build more digital services with the world’s leading AI companies as co-developers; accelerate Singapore’s IT services industry by progressively requiring AI-centric development methods in IT contracts; and better differentiate support for small- and medium-sized enterprises, with bespoke innovation grants opened to those with a strong tech foundation. MP Henry Kwek made these suggestions in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 24). He said if Singapore manages AI correctly and moves fast enough, it will be able to not only manage its constraints, but also reinvent its economy in ways that no competitor can replicate overnight.
