Chan Chun Sing on salary reviews for educational staff

11:17 Min

The Ministry of Education (MOE) periodically reviews staff salary packages to ensure they stay competitive, on the principle that Civil Service salaries should keep pace with but not lead the market. Salary adjustments took effect this month for all eligible education officers, allied educators and MOE kindergarten educators, as well as MOE staff seconded to other agencies. A pay review for early childhood educators in Government-supported preschools is underway and the changes will be implemented from next year. MOE oversees the special education (SPED) sector and works with social service agencies (SSAs) that run SPED schools to ensure teachers’ salaries remain competitive. For non-teaching SPED school staff such as psychologists, the SSAs take their cue from the social services sector, whose guidelines are updated every year. Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 5) in reply to an MP’s questions.
