Chee Hong Tat on investigations into recent MRT service disruptions

23:38 Min

The Land Transport Authority is still investigating the root causes of three recent incidents of MRT service disruption, said Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat. Replying to parliamentary questions on Wednesday (Feb 26), he updated the House on the preliminary findings for the incidents on the North-South Line on Feb 7, North-East Line on Feb 10 and Circle Line on Feb 11. Mr Chee said the three incidents were unrelated, involving different lines and components, as well as operations and maintenance teams. Unlike some previous disruptions where trains were unable to continue travelling on the tracks, the three incidents did not result in a prolonged stoppage of services, he said. However, as these incidents happened during the morning peak hours, they affected a large number of commuters and lengthened the waiting and travelling times, he added.
