Chee Hong Tat on public transport capacity in Punggol
Public transport capacity in Punggol is being increased in anticipation of new residents moving into the town. The Land Transport Authority recently added frequency to some bus services and is using more double-decker buses. It is monitoring the situation and will add more bus trips during peak hours if necessary. From next year, the one-car trains on both the Punggol and Sengkang LRT systems will be progressively replaced with two-car trains to increase overall capacity. The North East Line will also be extended to Punggol Coast next year with the opening of a new MRT station there. Senior Minister of State for Transport Chee Hong Tat gave these details in Parliament on Wednesday (May 10) in response to an MP’s question.
