Chinese Premier Li Qiang heads to Australia as relations thaw, but thorny issues remain
Chinese Premier Li Qiang will visit Australia tomorrow, after wrapping up his visit to New Zealand. This is the first time since 2017 that a Chinese premier is visiting Australia. Despite the thawing of ties, there will be some difficult topics on the table, such as the AUKUS security alliance that China opposes. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said he will raise the case of China-born Australian Yang Hengjun, who was arrested in Guangzhou in 2019 and handed a suspended death penalty earlier this year on espionage charges. Olivia Siong reports.
