Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 1: Leong Mun Wai on cutting costs

04:28 Min

Budget 2022 seeks to cut costs and the most effective way to do this is to streamline the Government structure, said NCMP Leong Mun Wai. Community engagement and citizen welfare, for example, are served by the Ministries of Culture, Community and Youth and Social and Family Development, leaving no need for the People’s Association; nor should “huge development expenditures” go into building new community centres. Mr Leong also suggested that money earmarked for SkillsFuture be taken from the Ministry of Education and integrated into the Ministry of Manpower to ensure that the spending creates jobs for Singaporeans. He spoke in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2).
