Many seniors who only speak dialects rely on vernacular news broadcasts for information. However, vernacular broadcasters have faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and some have retired. MP Hany Soh raised this concern in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4), asking if there are plans to train and retain more vernacular broadcasters. She also wanted to know if the Government might work with Mediacorp on a cartoon series featuring eco campaign mascots to attract and educate younger audiences.
