Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 3: Hazel Poa on better protection for gig workers

04:47 Min

A lack of CPF savings and employer contributions is a major concern for gig workers when it comes to their housing and retirement adequacy, said NCMP Hazel Poa in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4). She asked if the Government could consider a special scheme to let them voluntarily contribute to CPF and withdraw those contributions on demand. She said many are hesitant to contribute as their incomes are not stable and they worry about not being able to access the money if they need it. Ms Poa also asked the Government to consider making platform companies contribute to the SDF to support training for gig workers.
