Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 7: Zaqy Mohamad on positioning Malay-Muslim community as competent workforce
Skilling, reskilling and upskilling. The Government is ramping up efforts on these fronts to help the Malay-Muslim community position itself to build a more competent workforce. For youths and students about to enter the workforce, there are new scholarships and more guidance. One of them is a programme at the Institute of Technical Education. It will now include mentoring tailored to the unique needs of students to motivate them to do well. Those who wish to pursue a career in the finance industry can tap on a new undergraduate scholarship, under a deal inked between MENDAKI and GIC. As part of MENDAKI's transformation efforts, partnerships with national training agencies will be expanded to bring resources closer to the community, as well as provide more direct and targeted support to place Malay-Muslim workers in growth industries, such as technology and the green economy. Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower Zaqy Mohamad, who outlined these key initiatives in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 10), stressed that the Malay-Muslim community aspires to be a "community of success" to contribute to the growth of Singapore.
