Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 5: Chong Kee Hiong on tackling bird nuisance
Can NParks be the lead implementing agency in tackling cases of bird nuisance? This could include removing crows’ nests instantly when they are spotted instead of reporting them to the town council, increasing the frequency of crow-trapping, and working with the National Environment Agency and waste collection companies to develop more effective waste disposal measures so that there is minimal food waste for birds to feed on. These suggestions were made by MP Chong Kee Hiong in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2). He also requested that NParks be “more proactive” in relocating wild chickens in his constituency. He asked if the feeding of chickens could be made an offence, punishable by fines, under the Wildlife Act.
