In Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2), MP Murali Pillai raised several potential areas of concern regarding the escalation of costs for town councils. He cited the example of NParks’ recommendation of more aggressive tree pruning and the installation of automated fire-rated roller shutters in carparks of new Build-to-Order HDB flats which have to be maintained every month. He said the escalated costs, if not defrayed by HDB, would have to be settled by residents via higher service and conservancy charges, which would in turn impact the cost of living.
