Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 5: Poh Li San on gentrification in the heartlands
The recent announcement of the relocation of the Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) to Tengah will likely increase the desirability of Build-to-Order flats in Tengah estate as well as improve the accessibility of the school, said MP Poh Li San in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2). Lauding the move, she asked if there will be other similar approaches to spread out the concentration of highly prized properties to different parts of Singapore. She pointed out that the gentrification of HDB flats in older estates, such as Tiong Bahru, has also resulted in a strong desirability of those HDB flats among young home owners despite the short remaining leases. She wanted to know how the Ministry of National Development is renewing ageing precincts in other parts of Singapore.
