02:07 Min

In Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2), MP Yip Hon Weng said more can be done for the construction sector which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, contractors must be paid in a timely manner and coordination among Government agencies for relevant services can improve. He also called for a bigger push to attract locals to take on higher value-added jobs such as engineers to build up resilience when the next pandemic or crisis hits. Mr Yip asked if a shorter work-week of five days could be implemented for the sector. He said when workers are well-rested, workplace accidents are less likely to happen and morale and productivity will improve.
