Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 7: Indranee Rajah delivers wrap-up speech
Close to 70 hours of debate. Fifty-eight members spoke over the two-and-a-half days of the Budget debate. Over seven days of the Committee of Supply debate, 661 cuts were covered. It has been a “long two weeks for members”, said Leader of the House Indranee Rajah in Parliament on Monday (Mar 6). She said with the approval of the Government's fiscal policy for FY2023 to FY2024 and the estimates of expenditure in the Committee of Supply, as well as the passing of the Supply Bills, Parliament has taken an important step forward in positioning Singapore well for the post-pandemic future. She said the policies and strategies that have been debated and approved will help Singapore to navigate a world that is vastly different from the one before the pandemic. This changed world, she pointed out, is much more complicated and unpredictable, characterised by slower growth, higher inflation, greater geopolitical contestations, fragmentation in the global economy and a looming climate crisis. She said Budget 2023 will enable Singapore to adapt more nimbly and secure its future anchored by a fair, sound and sustainable fiscal plan.
