Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Hany Soh on support for families with young children

03:13 Min

How can the Government alleviate the pressures on young couples to have more children and assist parents to reduce and cope with the expenses and burdens of raising children? How should the Government provide reassurance to Singaporeans, especially those from low- and middle-income households, to ensure that their children have a good starting point regardless of the family's financial situation? MP Hany Soh raised these questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). Turning to the Baby Bonus Scheme, she wanted to know if the quantum of the cash gift will be periodically reviewed to be aligned with inflation, and asked if the ministry will explore widening the list of approved uses for the Child Development Account to further assist parents with child-related expenses.
