Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Gan Siow Huang on building a strong ecosystem for lifelong learning
Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang said the Government will continue to expand partnerships so that upskilling leads to better outcomes for both Singaporeans and businesses. In Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), she said the SkillsFuture Level-Up programme is being introduced to further strengthen training support. More than 7,000 courses have been curated covering a good range of sectors and job profiles. Ms Gan said those who qualify for SkillsFuture Level-Up will be notified of their eligibility. Those who need help in choosing courses can seek advice from the MyCareersFuture website or Skills Ambassadors at some community clubs, WSG Careers Connect Centres, job fairs and SkillsFuture roadshows across the island. She spoke on the learning needs for persons with disabilities. Ms Gan encouraged those interested to approach training providers who can then work with the Enabling Academy. She spoke on support for companies in making training more accessible. Ms Gan said the pilot Workplace Skills Recognition Programme will be extended so that more employers and workers can benefit from it. She also spoke on Performing Arts-Based Learning, which was piloted in 22 secondary schools in 2023. She said this will be rolled out to all secondary schools from 2024 to 2027.
