Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Dennis Tan on lift access for all HDB flats
In Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5), MP Dennis Tan highlighted the issues relating to lift upgrading for six blocks of HDB flats in Hougang SMC. He urged the Government to not just look at the issue of lift access from the angle of cost alone. He also pointed out that the Lift Access Housing Grant is not an option for many residents as it is never easy to ask people to shift. Mr Tan also said many residents still cannot accept HDB’s explanation of the issue of cost. He urged the Government to inform residents of the cost, technical constraints and alternative mechanical options available. The town councils should also be informed so that they can convey the same explanation, he added.
