Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Louis Ng on enacting new EIA law and designating more marine parks

01:37 Min

The middle ground between protecting Singapore's biodiversity and the need to provide housing for Singaporeans must be a strong environmental impact assessment (EIA) law to minimise the impact of Singapore's development, said MP Louis Ng in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5). He stressed the importance of enshrining this in a specific, standalone piece of legislation and ensuring that it is enforced. Mr Ng also noted that it has been 10 years since the Government designated Sisters' Islands as a marine park and that it has benefited greatly from the protection. He asked the Government if it will consider designating more marine sites as marine parks.
