Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 1: He Ting Ru on exploratory research and quantum computing
Singapore’s R&D landscape has a reputation for efficiency, but there is room to nurture truly visionary scientific research backed by the idea that detours and exploratory science can yield the most disruptive impact with a longer horizon. MP He Ting Ru said this in parliament on Friday (Feb 28). She sought clarification on the 2024 Frontier Competitive Research Programme grant call announced in May 2024, and wanted to know how substantial the commitment is, which projects have secured support and how the call has been publicised to all scientists. She also sought greater clarity on Singapore’s quantum roadmap, including the government’s view of its continued significant investments in quantum key distribution.
