Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 1: Yip Hon Weng on support for large families
A whole-of-society approach is needed to make raising a family in Singapore truly sustainable, said MP Yip Hon Weng in parliament on Friday (Feb 28). While welcoming the Large Families Scheme in Budget 2025, he called for fostering a culture that values large families and policies that “turn large families into an advantage, not a burden”. These could include setting aside more primary school vacancies for these families and providing them more chances to secure the BTO flat of their choice. “Small efforts” such as family-friendly parking and restaurant accommodations would also signal support for big families, he said. Mr Yip also sought more details on the SG60 Baby Gift.
