Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Poh Li San on local training areas
In view of the constraints on land use in Singapore, what is the Ministry of Defence doing to maximise its local training areas in an innovative manner? MP Poh Li San raised this question in parliament on Monday (Mar 3). She noted that it is just as important that the Singapore Armed Forces continue to train locally, as the COVID-19 pandemic had taught Singapore that access to overseas training spaces can be cut off quite suddenly. She also said that soldiers need to train realistically and be familiar with their own physical terrains and context in order to be effective when the need to defend Singapore arises.
