Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Sitoh Yih Pin on getting people not to fall for scams
One reason why scammers are so successful is because law enforcement is often left “chasing the tails” of scammers, said MP Sitoh Yih Pin. He pointed out that scammers are quick to change strategies and methodologies. So, apart from the authorities working harder, smarter and quicker to catch perpetrators, he believes public education plays an important role. “Perhaps the most straightforward way to prevent scams is for an informed citizenry not to fall victim to scams”, he said. He asked the government for updates on how it can better educate the public on scammers’ evolving tactics. Mr Sitoh spoke in parliament on Monday (Mar 3).
