Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4), MP Chong Kee Hiong suggested that the Ministry of National Development explore working with banks to come up with mortgage packages designed for seniors in private estates, distilling the learnings from the Housing and Development Board’s Lease Buyback Scheme. Separately, he highlighted the safety and hygiene issues associated with the growing population of birds and fowl in public estates. He said the birds have become pests and asked the National Parks Board for a new holistic strategy to curb their population.
