Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 3: Vikram Nair on access to justice and rise in bankruptcies
Access to justice for those who cannot afford it has been improved significantly in the past few years, said MP Vikram Nair in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4). He pointed to the setting up of the Public Defender’s Office as well as the Law Society and community organisations providing more avenues to legal aid. Mr Nair asked if the Ministry of Law has further plans to facilitate access to justice. He also noted that bankruptcy applications seem to have risen, possibly due to simplification of the bankruptcy regime. He asked for the ministry’s views and whether it is planning any further actions in relation to the bankruptcy regime.
