Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 7: Low Yen Ling on support for heritage businesses and arts education for the young
Exemplary heritage businesses are getting government support to recognise their contributions, help them grow and boost demand for their products. The SG Heritage Business Scheme will be piloted this year, said Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Low Yen Ling. It will focus on businesses that have been operating for at least 30 years, providing “locally rooted” trades, goods and services, and contributing significantly to the identity of a community or place. They will get support in brand promotion and business development, and access to consultancy services. In parliament on Monday (Mar 10), Ms Low also announced that the Arts Education Programme (AEP) will be expanded to all government-supported preschools - nearly 1,000 of them - by 2027. To bring arts experiences to people where they live, work and play, the ArtsEverywhere@CDC programme will offer more than 200 artistic performances nationwide this year. This is expected to benefit 50,000 viewers. Ms Low was speaking in the House about the steps her ministry is taking to ensure that all Singaporeans have access to the arts, while strengthening support for workers and businesses in the arts and heritage sectors.
